My approach

Whether I’m working through a support issue, helping a customer succeed, or figuring out where AI fits into a business, I start by taking a step back. I want to understand the foundation: what we’re trying to accomplish, how things work today, and how we got here.

01Principle

Understand the thinking behind it

When I’m working with an existing system or process, I want to understand why it was built that way. What was someone trying to solve? What constraints were they working with? What has changed since then?

That context helps me work forward from the foundation, make sense of the decisions already made, and figure out what needs to happen next.

02Principle

Build something sustainable

Two questions come up in almost everything I work on: Is this sustainable? And is it scalable?

Sustainability means looking at what it will take to keep something working. Can the people responsible for it manage it day to day? Do they have the knowledge, time, and resources they need? Can someone else understand it and pick it up?

Those questions belong in the work from the beginning, alongside the technical setup, processes, training, and documentation.

03Principle

Leave room to grow

Scalability starts with another question: Can we build from here?

I think about what happens as more people use a system, the workload increases, or the business needs something new. I want the work we do today to give us a solid foundation for that next step.

If something needs strengthening before we can build on it, that becomes part of the work: understanding what needs to change and finding a practical way forward.
